Denise and David's seats were in one part of the venue, and ours were in a completely different part. We were right up high and right over to one side, which meant that we could only see one of the two big screens on stage - turns out the screen we could see was showing the close-ups of Jermaine, while the other one we couldn't see had the close-ups of Brett. This suited me fine, as in my opinion Jermaine's the funny one, Brett's delivery and punch-lines fall flat with me. I have to say even being a Kiwi, I'm not a major Conchords fan - there's something about the way they do their jokes together that has me feeling like "Oh yeah that's clever, but it doesn't make me laugh" but if anyone else delivers the same joke I burst out laughing. Jermaine by himself makes me laugh with his jokes when he's by himself, but when he's with Brett I don't laugh - something doesn't work for my sense of humour when they're together. Its strange I know, and everyone else finds them hilariously funny with their delivery so its just a problem peculiar to me it seems. No matter - I enjoyed the show, as did Sasha.
We'd arranged to meet near the train station when the show got out, but in hindsight we should have set a time to leave the venue by as the show ran overtime a little bit and we had to catch the last train back to Edinburgh. This is where things became a bit tricky - after a futile 10 minutes trying to get a taxi or Uber, we had 30 minutes before the train left. Walking was more likely - but the walk would take 35 minutes. So with little other choice, we did what we had to - run to Glasgow Queen Street. In hindsight this was the only way that would have gotten us to the station on time, as the roads were clogged with traffic and not moving. The run was not ideal for any of us - most of us had fairly full bladders, and Denise's asthma started playing up along the way. But guess what - we made it, with about 7 minutes to spare. Now the next challenge - getting on the train, as it was full already and people were waiting by the doors. Denise & David went to one set of doors for the front carriage, and we went to the other, and we all squeezed on. It wasn't the most pleasant hour on a train back to Edinburgh - we were all squished like sardines, it was overly warm and mid-way through the journey someone near us fainted. Emerging from the train into the cold night air at Waverley was big relief, as was visiting the bathroom in the station!
The next day it was time to say goodbye to Denise and David, and for Sasha and I to head off to Waverley Station to catch the train to London. It seemed strange that this was only the second time we'd gone to see and stay with Denise & David while they were in Edinburgh, it felt like we'd been there more times to see them - but they'd stayed with us in Berlin a few times and before they had been living in Edinburgh Sasha and I had been to the city a few times also. It also seemed strange that the next time we'd see each other, it would be somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere - a whole half a planet away. Nevertheless, Denise & David had been excellent hosts and fantastic company and we are very grateful to have had the opportunity to see them and spend time with them before we departed Europe - Thank You!
