Following Snowdonia, we weren't going geographically too far - only to Liverpool, to see my Uncle Wayne and Aunt Sally. In terms of the UK though, this meant going from Wales to England, and also meant a slightly convoluted set of travels. First up was the morning bus from Llanberis to Bangor, then a train (a Virgin Pendolino) from Bangor to Chester to then change to another train. This next train was meant to take us from Chester to Liverpool Lime Street, which is what we'd booked but sometime after we'd booked Lime Street had been closed for repairs. So Wayne and Sally would pick us up from Runcorn Station instead, though as it turns out it would have been quicker for them to have picked us up from Chester as they now lived in Birkenhead on the other side of the Mersey! We had a fairly chilled weekend in Liverpool with Wayne and Sally. Apart from some relaxing at their house, we had a tiki-tour around Liverpool getting to see various sites of the city, the beach, and of course Wayne and Sally's other house which is Wayne's other do-upper project - the first one being the house they are currently living in! It also included a visit to The Wirral, which I'd never heard of before and which has the most manic beach - the tide recedes beyond the horizon and comes in right to the shore's edge each time. There are "Islands" which lie out on the beach which you can walk out to - the closest one takes about 15-20 minutes from the shore edge to get to but the better one is further out. Apparently when the tide comes in, it can come in quicker than you can walk to shore and people get caught out. It was very odd walking across this seemingly unsloping beach seabed dotted with the occasional yellow bouy beached on the sand (Sasha sat on one!). The next day we were going to do more tiki-touring of Liverpool including a cruise on the Mersey River ferry across into Liverpool City itself (which we hadn't yet done), but Wayne changed the plan after he found out we hadn't been to Manchester. So instead we had a trip "up the road" to Manchester, where we had lunch and visited a few pubs on the way around the city. I don't know that we saw much that was important, and certainly nothing that seemed particularly distinctively Manchester-y but we can now say we've been there! It was great to catch up with Wayne and Sally again, have to thank them a lot for their lovely hospitality. Oh and thank you too to Trinity and Nessa, the two British Short Hair cats who also graciously allowed us to stay in their house - unfortunately I didn't get any good photos of Trinity but here's two of Nessa! It was a lovely little break, before moving on to some further adventures and a great chance to catch up with Wayne and Sally before we left Europe and the Northern Hemisphere for good. Thank you Wayne and Sally once again, see you in the Southern Hemisphere next time!
