But now it was time for us to keep moving on with our UK travels. Next for us, was a visit to Llanberis in Snowdonia, Wales. We'd been to Snowdonia once before (see here), way back when we lived in the UK and visited Porthmadog and ridden the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways. I had long wanted to go back, but not to Porthmadog - I wanted to go up Mt Snowdon, the tallest hill/mountain in Wales and one of the largest in the UK. It just so happens there is a railway which climbs up the mountain all the way to the top, yes it has steam trains and it also appeared in the Thomas the Tank Engine books. Sasha hadn't really wanted to go there when I mooted the suggestion, and in fact visiting Mt Snowdon was on the chopping block at one point - if we couldn't do it then that was ok. But no matter how we tried to re-arrange our UK itinerary, we ended up with a little hole where the only thing that made sense to do in that time was visit Mt Snowdon. So to Mt Snowdon we went.
Once in Bangor, we went outside the station to a bus stop and caught what I think might have been the last bus from Bangor to Llanberis direct for the day. It took just over an hour to get us there, taking a very circuituous route but eventually we arrived in Llanberis and went and checked into our Airbnb accommodation. Once that was done, it was time to think about dinner! the weather was nice, and while scouting out some of the restaurants on the high street we saw a small supermarket, found a bunch of discounted items and opted to have a picnic on the lake foreshore instead. We found a nice spot, and had a lovely picnic in the evening sun - interrupted only by a bunch of Lads who had just finished a climb of Mt Snowdon, stripped down to their underwear and went for a quick dip in the lake. It seemed the lake was a bit silty and had lake weed as the lads didn't seem to much enjoy it, though the last lad to get in decided to do a Full Monty and went for a dip naked!
